Engagements
This work is driven by families who have lost loved ones to police violence — and by the reality that existing systems of accountability have too often failed them.
The engagements we are developing are not symbolic. They are a necessary step in building a record that reflects what families already know: that current processes are inadequate, inaccessible, and too often protect institutions rather than deliver accountability.
These sessions will create space for families, communities, and advocates to speak directly to those failures — and to articulate what real accountability must look like. This includes how police oversight bodies operate, how inquests are conducted, and how recommendations are (or are not) implemented.
The goal is not simply to gather input. It is to build a clear, collective foundation for reform — grounded in lived experience, supported by evidence, and capable of driving legislative and structural change.
As this work progresses, this page will be updated with:
a schedule of upcoming engagement sessions;
information on how to participate; and
materials prepared for and arising from each engagement.
We will also publish engagement materials — including discussion guides, background documents, and summaries — so that this work is transparent and accessible, and so that those unable to attend can still engage with and contribute to the process.
For too long, families have been asked to navigate systems that were not designed with them in mind. These engagements are about changing that — and ensuring that those most affected are at the centre of what comes next.
